The deadline to apply to the 2013 Rhode Island Business Plan Competition is rapidly approaching — with all online applications due by 5 p.m. on Monday, April 1. The Competition is the largest publicly supported business plan competition in New England and this year will award prizes valued at more than $200,000 — including $45,000 in cash to the top competitor.

Approximately 12 applicants will be selected as semi-finalists on April 8 and asked to submit a full business plan by April 16. Winners will be announced May 14 at The Garage, a half-day business expo hosted by the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce at the Rhode Island Convention Center in Providence.

Competition Co-Chair Larry Davidson, principal with the Providence-based accounting firm of Kahn, Litwin, Renza & Co., Ltd., said, “The entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well in Rhode Island, and the competition brings out the best – among applicants and also among sponsors, without whom we could not host this important event.”  Anyone age 18 or older may apply. To be eligible to receive prizes, applicants must agree to start or continue business operations in Rhode Island.
