STAC collaborative grant awardee Lucidux has won the 2011 RI Biz Plan Competition in the Entrepreneur Track. The $25,000 award will help the company accelerate the commercialization of the three-dimensional imaging technology it is developing to enhance camera visualization models surgeons use to detect and treat cancers. Mounted on the types of scopes that are increasingly being used for a range of minimally invasive surgical procedures this technology will allow surgeons to better view and analyze surface tissue texture so that they remove only cancerous tissue, leaving neighboring healthy tissue undamaged.
To develop the product, Lucidux is collaborating with Gabriel Taubin, Ph.D, Brown University and George E. Haleblian, M.D and Gyan Pareek, M.D, Rhode Island Hospital.
Established in 2000, the Rhode Island Business Plan Competition aims to develop the entrepreneurial spirit in Rhode Island and help create growth companies that will increase local employment. Including prizes to be awarded this year, the competition. In addition to Lucidux, awardees included AmbiLabs and PriWater.
