R.I. Gets 4th-Most NIH Grants, Brown Tops in at $64M

New government figures show that Rhode Island received the fourth-most funding per resident from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) last year compared with other states.
In 2009, Rhode IslandÔ??s research organizations collected $152.1 million in research grants, up from $141 million in 2008 and doubling the amount the state has received over the past decade.
Brown University brought in $64 million of the total research dollars, the highest amount for any single institution, followed by Rhode Island Hospital, The Miriam Hospital, the University of Rhode Island and Women & Infants Hospital.
