Jeff Seemann, Ph.D.

Dr. Jeff R. Seemann, currently Dean of the College of the Environment and Life Sciences at the University of Rhode Island, is an internationally–known plant biologist with an extensive record of peer-reviewed publications and external funding from agencies such as the National Science Foundation for research in the areas of photosynthesis and global change biology. He is listed by Current Contents as one of the top 250 most cited researchers in the area of plant and animal sciences.
Dr. Seemann received his B.A degree from Oberlin College and his Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from Stanford University. Before coming to Rhode Island he was Professor and Head of the Department of Biochemistry in the College of Agriculture and School of Medicine at the University of Nevada, Reno. At URI, Dr. Seemann also serves as the Director of the R.I. Agricultural Experiment Station and R.I. Cooperative Extension. In addition, he served on the Governor's Blue Ribbon Panel for Mathematics and Science Education, the R.I. Economic Policy Council, and is a member of the Board of Directors of Rhode Island's venture capital organization - the Slater Technology Fund.
